- The bathroom door opened at last and Nicole stepped out. She still felt like she was a little on display wearing the slip of a nightie she had purchased. She was surprised to see candle light flickering and Chase, sitting on the end of the bed, blinking. He had forgotten about the nightie and how it made his mom look like a present, waiting to be unwrapped.
- Nicole watched, anxiously waiting to see how Chase would react. He could not take his eyes from her. He rose from the bed as if in a trance. Frozen in place, he found himself unable to move, and just stood admiring his mom. She could not wait any longer and ran into his arms. He held her tightly, feeling her warmth, smelling her fruity shampoo, the damp from her hair soaking through his shirt.
- They stood like that for a long minute, Chase thinking how lucky he was to be with such a beautiful, wonderful woman. Nicole, with her head against his chest, listened to the beating of his heart. It seemed to her that it beat with love. She could sense it. She had never before felt so cherished, so secure, wrapped in his arms.
